Advance care planning is the process of thinking about and writing down your wishes or instructions for present or future health care treatment in the event you become incapable of deciding for yourself. The Ministry of Health encourages all capable adults to do advance care planning.
End of Life Planning is the arrangement of your end of life care wishes. This can include, but is not limited too, CPR, breathing tubes and organ donation. You can also name your health care agent, or the person who is in charge of your medical decisions if you become incapacitated. End of Like Planning can also include your burial/cremation, funeral and celebration wishes.
Respite care is for care givers to attend to the matters of life and self care while I spend time with the client. It is extremely important for caregivers to maintain a level of self care, so we can be our best when we show up to provide care.
Beside companioning is essentially spending time with the client having conversations, working on projects and end of life 'to do' tasks or to simply play cards and work on hobbies. Furthermore, Companioning offers a space for conversations about death outside of the family dynamic from an objective listener.
Vigiling is being in bedside attendance at the very end of life and death. This includes consistent monitoring of the client and offering comfort care where applicable. Death doulas are also there at the time of death to provide organization and support of the family and friends who are also in attendance. We will also make all required calls at the time of death, adhering to the wishes of the client and their family.
A legacy project is something that the client wants to leave for their remaining family members and/or friends. This can be a collection of recipes prepared in a book, a photo collection or a voice recording of child's story book for children or grandchildren. It can be a long standing project that needs to be completed. Limited by imagination only.
While not a professional grief counsellor, death doulas are educated and trained in grief bereavement. This support is offered to the client and family as an ongoing process, before death and after. This also includes community contacts and resources for grief and bereavement support.
One of the more difficult emotional experiences of had at the time of the mothers death was the process of cleaning out her apartment. Supportive Home Clearing is assistance with that, so the process is quick, efficient and less of an emotional minefield for friends and family.
With the advent of Zoom and FaceTime, I am able to offer satellite Services for family that are geagrapgical distance from their dying loved ones. This includes all of the above services plus frequent weekly updates via Zoom/Facetime with family to update. Please contact me for more information and how I can help you.
